Four-Goal Third Sends Northeastern Past Vermont, 5-1, In League Playoff Opener
Sophomore forwards Mia Brown and Alina Mueller each had a goal and an assist for the Huskies

BOSTON- Sophomore forward Mia Brown potted the game-winner and five different Huskies found the back of the net, as the No. 4 Northeastern women's hockey team skated past the University of Vermont, 5-1, in game one of the Hockey East quarterfinals at Matthews Arena.

Senior forward Matti Hartman got the scoring started for Northeastern (29-4-2) with a goal just under five minutes into the first period. Vermont (10-17-8) then evened the score with its lone tally of the evening at the 6:11 mark in the second period.

Headed into the third period tied at 1-1, the Huskies offense came alive with four goals to power past the Catamounts. Brown's power-play tally was her 11th lamp lighter of the season and the eventual game-winner for the Huskies.

Just over 30 seconds after Brown's goal, sophomore forward Alina Mueller slotted home her 23rd of the year. In a remarkable individual effort, junior forward Tessa Ward skated the length of the ice and claimed her sixth goal of the year. Freshman forward Kate Holmes finished out the scoring for the Huskies to make it a 5-1 final.

Junior goaltender Aerin Frankel finished with 18 saves in her 24th win of the year. The Huskies had 17 blocks to UVM's 6 and outshot the Catamounts, 26-19.
