Junior goaltender Loryn Porter stopped 19 shots for the Black Bears

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's hockey team took on rival University of Maine Black Bears at the Whittemore Center Arena on Friday evening. The Wildcat defense held their ground in the first period, keeping the game scoreless, but the Black Bear offense took over the second and third periods by scoring three unanswered goals to win 3-0.

Both the Wildcats and the Black Bears went 0-6 on the power play overall, and Maine outshot UNH by a ratio of 31-19. It was the first game this season where UNH was held to zero goals.

Maine has its first win in the Border Battle series sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings, with UNH leading this season 3-1.

GAME RECAP

- The first period remained scoreless and Maine outshot UNH 12-3. With 5:48 left in the period, the Black Bears went on the power play as the Wildcats obtained a penalty for slashing, but the UNH defense was able to kill the penalty time and keep Maine from scoring.

- The Black Bears were first on the scoreboard with 4:39 left in the second period as Tereza Vanisova sent a slapshot from the bottom of the faceoff circle that ricocheted to the upper stick side corner to make the score 1-0.

- Both teams were 0-3 on the power play in the second period, and UNH outshot Maine by a margin of 10-8.

- 10:28 into the third period, the Black Bears extended their lead to 2-0 as Vendula Pribylova lifted a shot from just outside the crease to the upper stick side corner.

- Maine tallied an empty net short-handed goal with 1:52 left to play in the third period as Taylor Leech scored from her own defensive zone to make the score 3-0.
