ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's hockey team was defeated by Quinnipiac, 3-2 in OT, on Saturday afternoon in the Alfond Arena.
First Goal (Maine 1-0): Maddie Giordano (Granby, Conn.) scored the first goal of the afternoon matchup. The forward took advantage of a huge rebound off of Liga Miljone's (Riga, Lativa) shot.
Second Goal (1-1): Kati Tabin and Kate Reilly played tic-tac-toe at the blue for a while until Tabin dished the puck off to Alexa Hoskin. The forward's wrister found its way through traffic into the back of the Maine net.
Third Goal (Quinnipiac 2-1): Exactly 00:10 after assisting on the goal, Tabin tallied one of her own. The two goals in 00:10 gave the Bobcats the lead with four minutes to go in the first period.
Fourth Goal (2-2): It took virtually the entire period to find a goal, but Giordano tied the game at two for Maine. Ella MacLean (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) had her shot saved. Thinking she covered the puck, Abbie Ives did not react as Giordano picked up the loose puck and scored the Black Bears' second goal of the afternoon. At the end of two periods, the score was tied, 2-2.
Fifth Goal (Quinnipiac 3-2): Sadie Peart scored the game winning goal in the final minute of overtime. The game winner came off of Kate Reilly's slapshot.
Notes: Carly Jackson finished with 25 saves, while Abbie Ives tallied 12 for Quinnipiac.
Maine went 1-4 on the power play, as the Bobcats were 1-7 on their player advantages.
The Black Bears blocked eight shots as a team.
Next: The two squads will face-off again tomorrow, October 12th. Puck drop in the Alfond is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
