ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team tied the Warriors of Merrimack, 1-1 on Friday evening.

The first period had the Warriors striking first as Mikyla Grant-Mentis got a takeaway and went coast-to-coast to score her Hockey East leading 18th goal of the season.

Carly Jackson would finish the first period with 10 saves for the Black Bears. Lea-Kristine Demers finished with seven in the period.

Maine would find an answer early in the second period as Celine Tedenby had some coast-to-coast action of her own, scoring her eighth goal of the season to tie the game up at 1-1, where it would remain until overtime.

Overtime came and both teams got high-quality shots on the opposing goaltenders, but each stood strong as the game would eventually end as a 1-1 tie.

Demers finished with 35 saves for the Warriors, while Jackson ended with 29 saves for the Black Bears.

Maine (9-10-4, 5-8-3 HEAW) will be back on the ice tomorrow (Jan. 18) as they face off against the Warriors for the third and final time of the season.
