Sophomore forward Liga Miljone had a goal and two assists for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team picked up the win against the Crusaders of Holy Cross, 4-2.

The first period was a defensive battle, that saw UMaine goaltender Carly Jackson stop all 10 shots she faced, while Holy Cross goaltender Jada Brenon stopped all 19 shots she faced in the period.

The second period was all about the Black Bears as they found the back of the net on three occasions in the period.

The first goal came at 7:55, when Michelle Weis scored her fourth goal of the season. She has now scored in each of Maine's last three games played. Brittany Colton (10) and Ella MacLean (6) picked up assists.

Maine scored again at 13:15 as Liga Miljone scored her seventh goal of the season, increasing the Black Bear lead to 2-0. Tereza Vanisova (14) and Ella MacLean (7) picked up assists on the play.

The Black Bears third goal of the second period came off the stick of Brittany Colton as she scored her fourth of the season. Tereza Vanisova (15) and Liga Miljone (11) picked up assists.

Holy Cross would battle back in the third period as Rachel Moore scored her third goal of the season. Emma Lange (4) and Allison Attea (1) picked up the assists.

Antonia Matzka would score her second goal of the season to draw the Crusaders to within one with 6:58 remaining in the game. Rachel Moore (7) picked up the assist.

Maine would pad their lead late as Ali Beltz scored an empty netter with 24 seconds remaining in the game, sealing the Black Bears win at 4-2. Ida Kuoppala (7) and Liga Miljone (12) picked up assists on the play.

Carly Jackson picked up 25 saves in the winning performance, as Jada Brenon finished with 37 saves in the losing effort.

Maine, who moves to 9-10-3, 5-8-2 in Hockey East, will stay at home and take on Holy Cross for the third and final matchup of the regular season. Puck is scheduled to drop at 2:00 p.m.
