BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman goaltender Gwyneth Philips notched a 22-save shutout to backstop the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over UConn on Friday night at Matthews Arena.
Philips made her third start in goal and picked up her third shutout in the victory. The freshman has not given up a goal in over 184 minutes of action this season. The Huskies (18-3-1, 15-2-0 HEAW) have now claimed a shutout victory in the past three games.
Northeastern poured in three goals in the first frame, with Kate Holmes, Chloe Aurard and Megan Carter all getting in on the action. Alina Mueller closed out the scoring for the Huskies in the third period, with a power-play goal at the 6:26 mark.
The Huskies' penalty kill unit killed off a 5-on-3 opportunity for UConn (12-10-1, 9-6-1 HEAW) with under five minutes to go to preserve the shutout victory.
