BOSTON - Chloe Aurard earned MVP honors after posting four points, two goals and two assists, and Lauren MacInnis scored the game winner at 16:03 in overtime to give the No. 3 Northeastern Huskies (25-3-2) a record 17th Beanpot Championship, 4-3 (2OT), over No. 9 Boston University (20-6-4) on Tuesday night at Walter Brown Arena in front of a record crowd of 1,790. Aerin Frankel earned the Bertagna Award after making 30 saves in the game.
The Huskies looked well on their way to snapping a six-year drought from the Beanpot title after Jess Schryver scored the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes left in the game from Aurard and Alina Mueller. BU's Sammy Davis then scored the equalizer with just over 22 seconds left in regulation to send the game into OT. After a scoreless five-minute OT period, NU went on the power play where MacInnis jumped on a loose puck and buried it in the back of the net.
Schryver finished with two points for the Huskies with a goal and an assist. The Huskies swept the men's and women's Beanpot titles for the first time since 1988. Northeastern is the first school to accomplish this feat since Boston College in 2014.
The third-ranked Huskies will take on Providence this Friday and Saturday in a home-and-home series, beginning inside Matthews Arena at 7 p.m.
