ORONO, Maine-- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team matched its score from Friday, posting another 8-0 win against Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon.
Carly Jackson and Jillian Flynn split the shutout, becoming the third Maine goaltending duo to accomplish the feat against Sacred Heart; the first since Candace Currier and Brittany Ott on Sept. 23, 2011.
The offense was once again unrelenting against the Pioneers, shoveling 42 shots on goal en route to another eight goal outburst.
Liga Miljone scored at 3:28 to break open the night's scoring. Alyson Matteau fired a hard slap shot from the middle of the blueline, which was saved and bounced out from the goaltender's pads. Miljone handled and potted the rebound on the off-balanced netminder.
Vendula Pribylova scored her first of the night as she barreled in at center, handling a Celine Tedenby pass from deep in the corner. Pribylova scored again on the power play in the dying seconds of the period as she cut from the boards to the right side face-off circle, cutting between two defenders for the shot.
Maine rifled off a four-goal third period starting with Tereza Vanisova's fifth of the year, as she took a breakout pass from the neutral zone in through the blueline with space before firing a lightning quick shot off.
Celine Tedenby scored her first career goal to make it 6-0 as she cut coast to coast before crossing through the slot, dishing the puck in backhand. Lydia Murray added to the goal party with her first of the year to make it 7-0, and freshman Ali Beltz scored the second of the year for the final.
The Black Bears start Hockey East campaign, traveling to Northeastern for a 2 p.m. puck drop next Friday before visiting Boston University for a 4 p.m. start Saturday.
