NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team defeated the Whitby Wolves, 3-0, during an exhibition game at Lawler Rink on Friday night.

How It Happened

Period 1 - Both teams had a slow start, but Merrimack had an 11-6 edge in shots during the first frame.

Period 2 - It was junior Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) that netted the first goal of the game on assists by classmates Madison Morey (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.) at 3:30 of the period.

Merrimack took advantage on a late power play chance in the frame as Rae picked up her second goal. Voight took a shot that was saved by the Wolves net-minder, but Rae was there for the rebound and potted the shot at 18:52.

Period 3 - The Wolves were able to kill off four penalties, including a five-on-three midway through the period, but the offense could not come through.

Freshman Courtney Maud (Georgetown, Ontario) found the back of the net with 47 seconds left in regulation to give the home team a 3-0 lead.
