CANTON, N.Y. - Three different players found the back of the net and a total of six marked the scoresheet as No. 7/6 St. Lawrence defeated the Vermont women's hockey team 3-0 at Appleton Arena on Friday evening.

"I thought the second half of the game, we played a lot better than the first half," said head coach Jim Plumer. "Credit to St. Lawrence; they jumped on us quickly. Our team was resilient in the second half."

The Saints improve to 4-0-1 following Friday's result, while UVM drops to 2-2-1 after the setback.

St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead at the 5:00 mark of the first period when Brooke Webster lit the lamp. She took a pass from Kennedy Marchment, then wristed a shot from the slot into the back of the net.

Jacquie Diffley then added another for the Saints at 13:45. After taking a feed in the neutral zone from Marchment, Diffley skated in on a breakaway and backhanded the puck top shelf, moving the score to 2-0. Hannah Miller received a secondary assist in the sequence.

After SLU advanced its lead to three in the second, Ève-Audrey Picard put the Catamounts on the board early in the third period. Amid a battle for the puck in the corner, Saana Valkama found Picard, who drove to goal on the power play and went glove-side, narrowing the Saints' lead to 3-1.

Sophomore Melissa Black made 26 saves on the night for UVM, while Grace Harrison tallied 25 for the Saints.

Vermont also was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Catamounts are back in action on Saturday to complete the home-and-home series with SLU. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Fans are encouraged to stick around following Saturday's game to collect their Catamounts team poster courtesy of The UPS Store of South Burlington.
