DURHAM, N.H. - Senior forward and captain Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team scored the game-tying goal in the third period, but the University of Connecticut's Lindsay Roethke scored with 35 seconds remaining in overtime to lift UConn to Sunday afternoon's 2-1 win at the Whittemore Center.

UNH, which had won two straight, is now 3-8-0 overall and 3-3-0 in Hockey East. UConn improves to 6-4-1, 2-2-0. Six consecutive games in the series have been decided by one goal, and each of the last four regular-season matchups have ended in a 2-1 score.

New Hampshire goaltender Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) made 13 of her 24 saves in the second period. UConn netminder Annie Belanger stopped 31 shots, including 12 in the third period and three in OT.

GAME RECAP

- UNH recorded a 7-5 shot advantage in the scoreless first period, and that edge did not include 3:30 into the game when Marie-Joe Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) snapped a shot from the top of the right circle that ricocheted off the crossbar.

- UConn put the puck in the net 1:38 into the second period but, after video review, the goal was disallowed because the net was dislodged.

- The Huskies went on their second power play of the game at 6:16 and scored 17 seconds later to take a 1-0 lead at 6:33. Theresa Knutson initiated the scoring sequence with a diagonal pass from the right point to Briana Colangelo low on the left side. Colangelo quickly slipped the puck across the slot and Leah Lum fired a one-timer into the open right side.

- UConn nearly doubled its lead with 3:30 left in second period, when Jaime Fox blasted a shot from between hashmarks in slot that caromed off the right post.

- The visitors took a 1-0 lead and 19-16 shot advantage into the second intermission.

- UNH tied the score, 1-1, at 5:47 of the third period. From the left point, Tori Howran (Bancroft, Ontario) moved the puck down low to Nicole Dunbar (Coto de Caza, Calif.). Dunbar's initial shot was stopped by Belanger but Curtis, positioned in the low slot, lunged to her right and lifted a shot into the upper-right corner.

- The 'Cats recorded a 13-6 shot advantage in the final frame, but that was the only one that beat Belanger.

- UConn scored on its only shot of the extra session. Justine Fredette's shot from the right circle was blocked by a defender into the corner. Fox fought off a Wildcat for possession, then slipped a backhanded pass to the near circle and Roethke fired the puck into the cage to end the game at 4:25 of OT.

'CAT NIPS

- Curtis extended her point streak to six games with her game-tying goal. She has 11 points (7g, 4a) in that span.

WILDCAT NOTEBOOK

- UNH's streak of 27 consecutive successful penalty kills ended with UConn's second-period power-play goal.

- New Hampshire's 32 shots marked the second-highest total of the season to the 34 recorded at Colgate University in the second game of the year.

- The Wildcats have lost each of their last three overtime games - all to UConn. Prior to Sunday, the Huskies were 4-3 triple-overtime winners in Game 2 of last year's Hockey East quarterfinals and 2-1 OT victors in the regular-season finale.
