ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears returned to the Aflond on Saturday afternoon for game 2 against Boston University, after dropping game 1 on Friday by a score of 5-3. What started out as another fairly even game ended up becoming all Maine in the third period, with 3 goals from Maine Freshman Tereza Vanisova, giving Maine a 4-1 victory, and their second conference win of the year.

The first period started off fairly even despite BU outshooting Maine 17-11 in the period, the only break in the stalemate being a lone goal by BU's Mary Parker, her 9th of the season, to give BU a 1-0 lead 13:11 into the first period. The first period would end with the same score.

Maine came out firing in the 2nd, scoring 23 seconds into the period as Tereza Vanisova took a pass from Alyson Matteau into the offensive zone, and fired one on net which was saved by BU Goaltender Erin O'Neil, but the rebound bounced out in front of the net where Brooke Stacey was crashing the net and fired it over the head of O'Neil to tie the game up at 1-all. That was all the scoring in that period, with BU outshooting Maine 12-9 in the period, however they were unable to re-take the lead and the period ended 1-1.

The third period was all Maine from the get go, with 3 goals in 6 minutes and 3 seconds, all from Maine Freshman Tereza Vanisova. The first was a power play goal 2:51 into the third period, their 6th power play goal of the season, as Vanisova got a feed from Alyson Matteau and Brooke Stacey near the left face-off dot and fired it past O'Neil to give Maine a 2-1 lead.

Vanisova's second goal came 6 minutes into the period as she got the puck behind the net, and faked out O'Neil, forcing her to her right side of the net, leaving the left side open for the wrap around, giving Maine a little bit of insurance with a 3-1 lead.

Vanisova would notch her third goal 8:54 into the period as she caught a rebound out in front and stuck with it, battling with O'Neil until she was able to poke it into the back of the net; assist went to Alyson Matteau, who ended the afternoon with 3 assists.

It wasn't all offense for the Black Bears, though, as Freshman Goaltender Carly Jackson saved 41 of 42 shots faced in her second career win, keeping the game out of reach for the Terriers. Jackson's record is now 2-9-0 on the season. O'Neil gets the loss for BU, she is now 3-3-1 as the Terriers fall to below .500 in conference once again, 4-5-0. Maine is now 2-7-0 in conference, 3-10-0 overall.

The Black Bears will travel to Connecticut next Friday, November 18th to face the Huskies at 7pm; they then return to Auburn, Maine and Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday, November 26th to face UNH at 7pm.
