STORRS, Conn. - Two third period goals put the UConn women's ice hockey team on top 2-1 against Boston University Tuesday at the Freitas Ice Forum.
After going six seasons without a single win against BU, the Huskies are 2-1 against the Terriers this year alone after defeating them back on December 3, 2016. With the team's second win over BU, UConn improves to 11-8-3 overall and 6-5-1 in Hockey East games while BU
Freshman Catherine Crawley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal, her second goal of the season, with less than 10 minutes to play in the third period. Junior goaltender Annie Belanger (Sherbrooke, Quebec) made 28 stops to help the Huskies to their second victory over the Terriers this season.
FIRST PERIOD
Although UConn and BU were near even in shots in the first, the Terriers claimed a last second lead to go ahead 1-0 after the first period.
For a second consecutive game, there were no penalties called on either team in the first period and there was a full 20 minutes of five-on-five hockey.
BU's Mary Grace Kelley gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead with just 22 seconds up on the clock in the first period. BU outshot UConn 8-7 in the first frame.
SECOND PERIOD
UConn and BU were scoreless in the second period. Belanger made 13 stops in the second period alone to keep the Huskies within one.
The first power play opportunity of the game went in favor of the Terriers after senior Jessica Stott (Niverville, Manitoba) was called for hooking, but the Huskies successfully killed it off to remain down 1-0.
THIRD PERIOD
The Huskies battled back in the third period, outshooting BU 8-9 in the final frame. UConn received it's one and only power play chance of the game 1:38 into the third when BU's Sammy Davis was called for slashing, but the Huskies were unable to score. Both teams went 0-1 on the power play.
Sophomore Kayla Mee (Stonewall, Manitoba) scored a goal for the third consecutive game when she tied it up 1-1 seven minutes into the third period. Mee has tallied a point in UConn's last seven consecutive contests. She has 10 total points this season. Junior Leah Lum (Richmond, B.C.) earned the assist on Mee's goal.
Crawley notched the game-winning goal 12:54 into the third to put the Huskies ahead 2-1 in the end. Senior Kelly Harris (Canton, Mich.) and freshman Leona Sim (Vancouver, B.C.) earned the game-winning assists.

The Huskies will meet Providence for the first time this season on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a 2 p.m. puck-drop at Freitas. The Huskies will then play the Friars on the road at Schneider Arena on Sunday, Jan. 15.
