PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the Union College Dutchwomen on Dec. 1. Providence scored four unanswered goals to win, 4-1. The Friars improved to 5-10-0 (3-6-0 WHEA) while the Dutchwomen moved to 0-10-4 (0-4-2 ECAC).

Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) earned her fourth win for the Friars and picked up 15 saves.

Union's Jamie Smith put the Dutchwomen on the board first, with a power play goal coming at 12:22 in the first.

Providence responded soon at the 15:48 mark of the first period. Danielle Hardy (Nanaimo, British Columbia) notched her second goal of the season after she sent a bouncing puck into the back of the net. Madison Sansone (Lockport, N.Y.) picked up the puck in the corner and moved it to Ariana Buxman (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) on the point. Buxman took a shot from the point that deflected off Union's Melissa Black and to Hardy in the slot, who backhanded it to even the score 1-1.

The Friars scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take a three-goal lead. Brittney Thunstrom (Coon Rapids, Minn.) one-timed the puck through Black's legs to give the Friars the lead. Emily Landry (Orangeville, Ontario) worked the puck along the boards and moved it to Courtney Kukowski (Apple Valley, Minn.) along the half-wall. Kukowski quickly passed to Thunstrom in the slot.

Natasia Burzynski (Rye, N.H.) collected her first goal as a Friar with just under three minutes to go in the second period. Arianna Reid (Lakeville, Minn.) broke the puck out to Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) in the neutral zone. Putinga slipped the puck past the Union defenders, to send Burznski on a breakaway, who then wristed it past Black.

Providence struck a final goal less than a minute later, on the power play. Putigna earned her second point of the game scoring from an off-angle shot along the goal line. She was assisted on the play by Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) and Sansone.

Putigna notched two points in the game, marking an eight game point streak for her.
