BURLINGTON, Vt. - Leah Lum had two goals and an assist to lead Connecticut (11-12-5, 7-8-3 WHEA) to a 3-1 win over Vermont (6-21-2, 4-13-2 WHEA) Saturday afternoon in Hockey East action on Senior Day from Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Lum opened the scoring for the second straight game 3:14 into the first period. Caitlin Hewes fired a wrist shot from the point and Lum redirected the puck past Vermont's Madison Litchfield (13 saves) to give the Huskies an early edge with her sixth goal of the season.

Vermont responded early in the second period to tie the game on the power play. Bridget Baker won a puck battle down low and passed over to Dayna Colang who quickly fed Daria O'Neill at the point. O'Neill fired a slap shot that caromed off a Connecticut defender and in to tie the game. O'Neill's second goal of the season was Vermont's 14th power play tally in league play this season.

Connecticut reestablished its lead 10:59 into the second period with their own power play tally. Lum fired a shot from the point that deflected off Theresa Knuston in front of the net and past Litchfield. Knutson's team-leading 14th goal of the season was also assisted by Kayla Mee.

Lum pushed the Connecticut lead to two with an even strength tally 3:44 into the third period. Lum anticipated a cross-ice pass in the Vermont zone and intercepted it before walking in alone on Litchfield. She fired a quick shot past Litchfield for her third goal of the weekend series.

The Catamounts pulled their goalie for an extra-attacker for the final three minutes of regulation but they couldn't solve UConn's Elaine Chuli a second time. Chuli finished the game with 24 saves. Just like Friday she was aided by the defense in front of her, the Huskies blocked 15 shots.

Vermont returns to action next weekend as they travel to Durham for a two-game Hockey East series with New Hampshire. The teams will faceoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night before closing out their season series at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
