NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The UConn women's ice hockey team dropped to 6-7-2 on Friday after a 1-0 loss to No. 5/8 Quinnipiac in the first game of the Nutmeg Classic. Senior goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) made 32 stops on 33 shots from the Bobcats.

UConn took an early penalty five minutes into the first period for too many players on the ice, but the Huskies killed it off. Less than a minute after the first penalty was released, UConn was called for tripping and the Bobcats went up on another power play, which eventually led to a goal from Nicole Kosta, who put one past Chuli on the power play to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game.

The Huskies held the Bobcats to scoreless second and third periods, killing off four Quinnipiac penalties and turning away 23 shots.

UConn went 0-5 on the power play against Quinnipiac, four of which came in the third period. Quinnipiac was called for four straight penalties in the third period, but UConn was unable to capitalize on any chances.

Despite winning the majority of power plays, UConn was outshot 33-16 on the night and could not put one in to tie it up and Quinnipiac claimed the first round of the 12th annual Nutmeg Classic.

UConn will face Merrimack in a consolation game tomorrow, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
