BOSTON - Sophomore Rebecca Leslie tallied three points thanks to two goals and an assist to help lead the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Providence at Agganis Arena on Saturday afternoon.

BU (15-9-2, 12-4-2 WHEA) held a 3-1 advantage over Providence (8-16-1, 4-10-1 WHEA) after 20 minutes and scored a goal in each of the final two periods to seal the victory. The Terriers improved to 6-1-1 all-time at Agganis Arena with the win.

Leslie was one of three Terriers to contribute multiple points, joined by sophomore Victoria Bach and senior Rebecca Russo, who each tallied a goal and an assist. Junior Alexis Crossley lit the lamp while sophomore Savannah Newton, freshman Connor Galway, junior Maddie Elia and senior captain Kayla Tutino each had a helper.

Junior Victoria Hanson was sharp between the pipes, as she made 20 saves for her sixth win of the season. BU has now held Providence to just one goal in 120 minutes this season.

The Terriers opened a 2-0 lead just 3:09 into the game after two goals in a span of eight seconds. Crossley began the sequence with her third goal of the year thanks to a shot from the point. On the ensuing faceoff, Elia won the puck back to Galway, who dished it quickly to Leslie. She found Russo at the right post, and the senior finished for her 11th marker of the season.

Providence responded with a power-play goal at the 10:26 mark of the period, but Leslie regained the Terriers' two-goal lead a mere 16 seconds later after a nifty give-and-go with Elia.

Bach made it 4-1 halfway through the second stanza thanks to a great play by Tutino behind the Providence net. She won the puck along the end wall and attempted a shot that Allie Morse (31 saves) stopped. The rebound popped to Bach at the crease, however, and she deposited it for her 14th goal of the season.

Leslie secured the 5-1 scoreline with her third shorthanded goal of the season. Bach provided a strong backcheck on a Providence player, and Leslie took advantage by stealing the puck, deftly deking around Morse and sliding home her eighth goal of the season.

BU and Providence will conclude the home-and-home series on Sunday at Schneider Arena. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
