PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team opened the 2014-15 season with a 4-1 exhibition loss against the Montreal Stars, of the CWHL, on Sept. 27 at Schneider Arena.

The Stars struck first in the game when Sara Dagenais scored 11:18 into the opening period. She was assisted by Erin Lally and Chelsey Saunders. Just before the close of the period, Montreal took a 2-0 advantage with a score from Lally. Saunders notched the assists on the play.

Noemie Marin tallied the lone goal of the second period at 6:46, with a feed from Carol Ouellette.

Providence got on the board when senior Haley Frade (Marion, Mass.) scored to bring the score to 3-1. Sophomore Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) recorded the assist.

Montreal would score one last time before the end of regulation with a tally from Julie Chu at 5:42. Ann-Sophie and Ouellette combined for the assist.

Providence outshot Montreal in the first (11-9) and second period (17-9). Freshmen Blair Parent (Blaine, Maine), Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) and Madison Sansone (Lockport, N.Y.) saw their first action in a Friar uniform along with sophomore Lauren Klein (Shoreview, Minn.).

The Friars kick-off their regular season on the road against Mercyhurst on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 4 at 5:00 p.m.
