HAMPDEN, Connecticut-The University of Maine Women's Ice Hockey team opened its road trip with a 4-0 loss against #9 Quinnipiac at High Point Solutions Arena Friday afternoon. Maine falls to 2-3-1 on the season, while Quinnipiac improves to 3-0-1.
Taylar Cianfarano started the scoring for Quinnipiac at 5:33 by beating Meghann Treacy (Lake Peakskill, New York) in the first period. Morgan Fritz-Ward and Emma Greco assisted on the first goal of the game.
Quinnipiac struck again in the first period at 13:44 with another goal from Taylar Cianfarano. It was Cianfarano's fourth goal of the season. Nicole Connery assisted on the goal.
Emma Woods of Quinnipiac scored her first goal of the season at 12:27 in the second period, to put the Bobcats up 3-0. Nicole Brown chipped in with an assist, her first on the season.
Erica Uden Johansson finished off the second period with a goal at 19:12. Nicole Brown and Kristen Tamberg each assisted on the goal for Quinnipiac.
Treacy had 29 saves through the first two periods for the Black Bears, and Mariah Fujimagari (Markham, Ontario) had 14 saves in the third period. Chelsea Laden had 13 saves and recorded her third consecutive shutout for the Bobcats. Maine was 0-5 on the power play, while Quinnipiac was 0-3.
Maine returns to action at Quinnipiac on Saturday October 18th. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
