ORONO, Maine --- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped the first game of the two game weekend series versus Northeastern University 5-2 at Alfond Arena Saturday afternoon. Maine drops to 8-12-3 on the season, while Northeaster University improves to 7-12-4.

Maine drops to 8-12-3 overall on the season and 7-5-1 in Hockey East play. Northeastern improves their record to 7-12-4 overall and 6-7-1 in Hockey East play.

The Black Bears struck for the first goal of the game late in the opening period. Kelsey MacSorley (Stratford, Ontario) received a pass off the boards from Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario). MacSorley met the puck with a one-timer from the blue lines, which found the back of the net at (19:17).

Maine capitalized off of a rebound for their second un-answered goal from Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) (0:43) into the second for her sixth goal of the season. Browne had the initial shot and was credited with the assist for her second of the game and seventh of the season.

Northeastern attacked the net in the second period with 22 shots on goal and all were stopped by Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.).

The Huskies continued their aggressive play into the third period and breaking Treacy's shut out. Denisa Krizova scored Northeastern's first goal of the game (7:10) into the period.

Hayley Masters tied up the game mid-way through the period off of a scrum at the front of the net for her third goal of the season at (10:00) making the scored 3-2.

Melissa Maganey tied the game off a face-off at (10:10). Hayley Masters was the victor of the face-off and rewarded the assist.

Denisa Krizova took advantage of an open net for her second goal of the period. Kendall Coyne had her shot saved by Treacy. Krizova scooped up the rebound and did the rest. Taytum Clairmont had the second assist on the play.

Hayley Masters added an empty net goal at (18:43) to give Northeastern a 5-3 lead.

Meghann Treacy saved 37 of 42 shots on goal, and Chloe Desjardins saved 40 of 42 shots on goal. The Black Bears were 0-2 on the power play, while the Huskies scored zero goals in four opportunities.

The Black Bears return to action January 25th at the Alfond Arena against Northeastern University.
