BURLINGTON, Vt. - Gabrielle Davidson scored the game-winning goal and added two assists as the McGill Martlets defeated Vermont 4-0 Friday night in an exhibition tilt at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

The Martlers opened the scoring at the 9:03 mark of the second period on the power play. At the point Kelsie Moffatt passed down low to Leslie Oles who quickly centered the puck to Davidson who tipped her sixth goal of the season past Vermont goaltender Madison Litchfield.

McGill struck again a little over two minutes later to double its lead. Stefanie Pohlod won a battle for the puck the behind the Vermont net and cycled along to Oles who found Alexandria Serpico in front. Serpico beat Litchfield with a quick backhand for her second goal of the season at the 11:47 mark of the second frame.

Following the second period Vermont followed their pregame plan to alternate goalies. Freshman Molly Depew came in to see her first collegiate action relieving Litchfield who made 14 saves for the Catamounts.

McGill added an insurance marker 84 seconds into the third. Pohlod skated into the Vermont zone and fired a wrist shot past Depew, who was partially screened on the play.

The Martlets closed out the scoring with their second power play goal of the night with 6:56 left in the third period. Moffatt faked a shot at the point, skated around a Vermont defender and fired a low shot past Depew for her second goal of the season.

Depew made seven saves for Vermont in the third period. McGill's Brittany Smrke earned her second career shutout making 20 saves, including nine in the second period.

Vermont is now 1-6-1 all-time against McGill, the defending CIS champions are now 2-0-0 against NCAA competition this fall.

The Catamounts open the regular season on the road next Friday as they face Bemidji State at 8 p.m. It will be Vermont's first meeting against the Beavers since 2007.
