BURLINGTON, Vt. - Lindsey Allen picked up her second hat trick of the season to lead the Dartmouth Big Green to a 6-2 win over Vermont in non-conference action from Gutterson Fieldhouse Sunday night.

The Catamounts opened the scoring with 6:12 left in the first period. On the power play Amanda Pelkey passed down low to Sarah Campbell who quickly fired a cross-crease pass to Brittany Zuback for a tap-in goal, her 12th of the season.

With 1:55 left in the first period Dartmouth's Sam Zeiss received a five-minute major and a game disqualification after a dangerous hit from behind on Vermont defenseman Taylor Willard.

The Catamounts capitalized 21 seconds into their five-minute power play. Dayna Colang fired a low shot from the point that Dartmouth goalie Robyn Chemago padded aside right to Pelkey, who deposited the rebound in the back of the net for her ninth goal of the season.

Vermont continued on the power play for the first 3:05 of the second period. Over that stretch Chemago made five saves to keep the Catamounts lead at two. 27 seconds after the Vermont power play Allen got Dartmouth on the board. She collected the rebound from a Zoe Brennan point shot and put it in on her backhand to make it 2-1 3:32 into the second frame.

With 6:14 left in the second period Dartmouth equalized with another scramble goal in front of Vermont goaltender Madison Litchfield. Laura Stacey made a diving stab at a loose puck in the slot and it found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. Kennedy Ottenbreit and Allen were credited with assists on the play.

Just 37 seconds after the Stacey goal Dartmouth took its first lead of the evening with Karlee Odland's fourth goal of the season. Ailish Forfar won a puck battle behind the Vermont net and as she skated to the slot she found Odland open for an easy finish to make it 3-2.

Early in the third period the Big Green earned a two-minute five-on-three power play after the Catamounts were called for two simultaneous minor penalties. Allen tapped home the rebound from a Laura Stacey point shot for her second goal of the night 4:17 into the third period.

Catherine Berghuis scored shorthanded at the 7:09 mark to build the Big Green lead to three. Katy Ratty was hauled down on a breakaway and Berghuis followed the play and tapped it into the empty net for her second goal of the season.

Allen rounded out the scoring with her hat trick tally with 5:44 left in regulation. After a Vermont turnover she scored on a breakaway with a quick shot along the ice. The Big Green scored six unanswered goals as Vermont lost for the first time this season when leading after the first period.

Vermont returns to action on Friday January 2 at 7 p.m. as they host Colgate in the Catamounts final non-conference series of the season. The teams will faceoff again on Saturday January 3 at 4 p.m.

During Saturday's game the Catamounts will host the annual Vermont Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. We are encouraging fans to bring new or gently used teddy bears and other stuffed animals to toss onto the ice during the second intermission.

All teddy bears and stuffed animals will be donated to patients at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Starr Farm Nursing Home, and Burlington Health & Rehab by members of the Vermont men's and women's hockey teams later this winter.
