STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's hockey team fell in the final minute of regulation thanks to a Northeastern power play goal, dropping a 4-3 decision on Saturday afternoon at Freitas Ice Forum. The loss drops Connecticut to 7-17-7 on the year and 3-11-4 in Hockey East play, while NU improves to 10-15-4 overall and 9-8-1 in conference action.

The Huskies in blue and white jumped out to a 2-0 lead with first period goals from Kayla Campero (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kelly Harris (Canton, Mich.), before NU tied the contest early in the second period. Sarah MacDonnell (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) scored to allow UConn to re-take the lead in the third period, but NU scored the final two goals of the contest, including a Denis Krizova power play goal with 49 seconds remaining.

UConn out-shot Northeastern 31-28 on the day, and went 1-for-2 on the power play compared to 1-for-3 for NU. Connecticut also won the faceoff battle, 27-23, and blocked 17 shots against four for NU. Kendall Coyne scored twice for Northeastern and along with Krizova recorded a three-point outing, while Campero, MacDonnell and Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) all had two points for UConn. Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) made 24 saves for UConn and Chloe Desjardins stopped 28 shots for NU.

Campero struck for the game's first goal at 3:00, connecting on the power play. Snodgrass played the puck from behind the net to MacDonnell near the blue line, where the Husky captain slid a pass to Campero in the low slot. The senior wound and blasted her 33rd career goal, sixth in UConn history, past Desjardins early in the opening frame. The assist for MacDonnell on the play was the 44th of her career, moving her into a tie for fifth in program history.

The Huskies in blue doubled their lead at 7:06 of the first, when Harris pounded home a Rebecca Fleming (Newton, Mass.) rebound in front. Northeastern cut the lead back to a goal at 13:11 of the first, when Christina Zalewski made it 2-1 off a Tori Hickel feed.

Northeastern tied the contest at 3:40 of the second, as Coyne scored her NCAA-leading fourth shorthanded goal during a UConn power play. After Heather Mottau blocked a UConn shot from the point, she fed Krizova who found Coyne with speed into the UConn zone for a blast past Chuli.

Connecticut took the lead again at 7:14 of the third, when Snodgrass found MacDonnell in the right circle for a top-shelf strike past Desjardins that gave UConn a 3-2 lead. Coyne scored again for NU about seven minutes later, tallying off a Krizova assist at 14:20 tie the contest up again.

After a checking call on UConn in the final two minutes of regulation, Northeastern took to the power play to set up what would become the deciding goal. After a scramble in front, Krizova popped home at loose puck at 19:11 to give NU its first lead of the contest, 4-3. UConn pulled Chuli with 30 seconds to play in the third, but could not convert with the extra attacker.

The two sets of Huskies return to the ice to conclude their regular season series tomorrow afternoon for a 3 p.m. puck drop in Storrs. UConn will honor its six-member senior class prior to the contest for Senior Day.
