PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated 2-1 by Brown in the 20th Annual Mayor's Cup at Meehan Auditorium. With the win, Brown captures the Mayor's Cup and improves to 4-6-0 on the season while Providence moves to 2-12-3 on the year.

After two scoreless periods it was freshman Blair Parent (Blaine, Minn.) who broke the scoring drought with her first collegiate goal, 7:49 into the third period to give PC a 1-0 lead. Parent received the puck from sophomore Ariana Buxman who slid a pass through a Brown defenseman after collecting the puck off of a turnover. Buxman's assist was her first collegiate point. At the 10:00 minute mark, junior goalie Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) stuffed Brown's Sarah Robson on a one-on-one after she broke away from defenders, to keep the game scoreless.

The Bears got on the board to tie the game shortly after at 11:10 when Sam Donovan notched a goal with assists going to Ariana Rucker and Hunter Davis. Morse fended off multiple shots in the scenario but Donovan was able to put one rebound in the net. Brown scored the go-ahead goal at 17:07 when Kaitlyn Keon's slap shot found the back of the net, Hunter assisted on the goal. Providence was unable to generate the tying goal with Morse pulled towards the end of the period.

For the game, Providence outshot Brown 33-18. Each team was penalized four times and went 0-4 while on the power play.

Morse finished the game with 16 saves while Elvin stopped 32 shots.

Both teams will compete again tomorrow, at Schneider Arena for a 1:00 p.m. puck drop.
