Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 1 Boston College women's ice hockey defeated Connecticut, 6-1, Friday night in game one of a home-and-home series with the Huskies. The Eagles (12-0-1, 8-0-0 WHEA) remain undefeated and have extended their winning streak to ten games. With its victory over UConn, Boston College has scored five or more goals in eight of its 13 games this season.

Although the Eagles came out strong in the first period, tallying 16 shots on goal against UConn's five, it was the Huskies who struck first. After Boston College killed Toni Ann Miano's body checking penalty, UConn's Reese Maccario crashed the Eagles' net and snuck one past freshman goaltender Katie Burt to put the Huskies up, 1-0, with under five minutes remaining in the opening frame.

The Eagles were able to answer just three minutes later. Senior defenseman Emily Pfalzer fed the puck from the blue line to Alex Carpenter at the net. Carpenter lifted the puck into the upper left corner past Husky goaltender Annie Belanger to even the score at one goal apiece.

Boston College and Connecticut headed into the first intermission knotted up at one.

BC came out rushing the net in the second frame and didn't allow a shot on goal for the first eight minutes and thirty seconds of the period.

Freshman forward Tori Sullivan lifted a top shelf goal, her seventh of the year, off of a pass from junior defenseman Lexi Bender for what would be the eventual game-winning goal. The Eagles took the lead with seven minutes remaining in the second period.

Just over a minute later, junior forward Haley Skarupa beat the last defender with a back and forth deke and beat Belanger on the left side to extend the Eagles' lead to 3-1. BC headed into the locker room with a two-goal lead.

The Eagles jumped out to a three-goal third period to seal the win. Six minutes into the third period, Alex Carpenter netted her second goal of the game-and her team-leading 14th goal of the season-in a scrum in front of the net to put BC up, 4-1.

Sullivan also tallied her second goal of the night after following up on a rebound and finding the back of the net.

On Boston College's fifth power play opportunity of the night, graduate forward Danielle Doherty scored her first goal of the season on a scrum in front of Belanger to bring a final score of 6-1 in BC's win column.

Overall, the Eagles outshot UConn, 42-13. Freshman Tori Sullivan, junior Alex Carpenter, and graduate Danielle Doherty were the three stars of the game.

No. 1 BC is back in action tomorrow afternoon in Storrs, Conn. for game two against the Huskies.
