PITTSBURGH, Pa-The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped to Robert Morris 4-2 on Friday afternoon, Mariah Fujimagari (Markham, Ontario made 44 saves for the Black Bears. The two teams battled to score in the first period but both came up short as the period ended in 0-0.
Robert Morris scored at 11:17 in the second period when Brittany Howard knocked the puck in the net on a pass from Thea Imbrogno to make it a 1-0 game.
Just minutes later Howard struck again when she put the puck by Maine goalie Mariah Fujimagari on a pass from Rebecca Vint at 8:54 in the second period.
The Black Bears cut the lead in half when Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario) scored on a pass from Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) at 2:05 in the third period.
Robert Morris responded at 4:06 in the third when Howard earned a hat trick after she scored on a pass from Kristen Richards. Robert Morris increased the lead to 3-1.
Howard remained unstoppable for Robert Morris at 7:47 in the third Howard mirrored her first goal scoring on a pass from Imbrogno, giving her four goals in the game.
Maine fought back and Karissa Kirkup (Virden, Manitoba) put the puck in the net at 14:13 on a pass from Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) in the third making the final score 4-2.
The Black Bears were outshot 48-12.
Fujimagari made a career high of 44 saves while Jessica Dodds stopped 12.
Maine falls to a 0-12-3 on the season while Robert Morris improves to 14-3-1 on the season.
The Black Bears take on Penn State Saturday at 2pm.
