MAINE DEFEATED BY QUINNIPIAC, 4-0

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to 10th ranked Quinnipiac on Friday night at Alfond Arena. Maine falls to 0-2-1 on the season, while Quinnipiac improves to 4-0-1.

Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Bobcat forward Nicole Connery picked the puck off a Maine stick and backhanded the puck into the net, past Maine goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peeksville, N.Y.) at 16:35.

The two teams skated through a scoreless second period. The Bobcats extended their lead to 2-0 with a power play goal just 38 seconds into the third period. Kelly Babstock found Emma Woods. Woods beat Treacy for her fourth goal of the season.

Quinnipiac added its second power play goal of the period at 10:50. Babstock fed Taryn Baumgardt just inside the blueline, She one-timed a shot past Treacy for her first career goal. Woods also assisted on the goal

Quinnipiac capped the scoring with a power play goal at 17:00 of the third. Shelby Wignall fed Anna Borgfeldt who fired a shot past Treacy. Amanda Colin also assisted on the play.

Quinnipiac finished the game with a 36-20 edge in shot on goal. Maine was 0-for-5 on the power play, while Quinnipiac converted three of their eight opportunities.

Maine goalie Treacy made 32 saves in goal for the Black Bears. She falls to 0-2-1. Chelsea Laden made 20 saves to record the shutout. She improves to 4-0-1 on the season.

Maine and Quinnipiac finish their two-game weekend series on Saturday, Oct. 19. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 PM from Alfond Arena.
