ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team tied Northeastern University 1-1 on Friday night at Alfond Arena. Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) scored Maine's lone goal.

Maine took a 1-0 lead at 15:41 of the first period. Senior Kelly McDonald took the puck away from a Northeastern player on the boards and passed to Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba), who was skating down the slot. More had a shot that hit the cross bar and the deflection went right to McDonald, who fired it into the goal for her first goal of the season.

Northeastern answered at 4:47 of the second period when senior Katie MacSorley took a chance in the second period during a Maine power play and skated up the ice for a shorthanded breakaway goal. MacSorley was able to tie the teams up at one for the remainder of the period.

While both teams had eight shots during the third period, neither could get the puck in the net.

Heading into overtime, Maine had two shots on net and held the Huskies to 0 shots in overtime.

Northeastern out shot Maine 28-26. Both teams were unsuccessful on the power play, Maine 0-7 and Northeastern 0-5.
