Senior forward Brianne Kilgour had a goal and an assist for the Black Bears

The University of Maine women's ice hockey team earns their first win of the season after defeating Brown 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Alfond Arena. Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) and Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) teamed up to score Maine's two goals.

Maine came out determined and took the lead early when Kilgour found Jessica Vallotton (Glenboro, Manitoba) who took a slap shot that was deflected, Massey knocked in the rebound to put Maine up 1-0 at 3:25 in the first.

The Black Bears struck again at 16:06 in the first period when Karissa Kirkup (Virden, Manitoba) found Kilgour in front of the net and Kilgour put the puck by Brown goalie Aubree Moore for a power play goal.

Maine and Brown tied with shots on goal in the first period 6-6.

Maine and Brown battled in the second period but both team remained scoreless. Maine outshot Brown 11-10 in the second.

Brown cut the lead late in the game when Erin Conway knocked the puck in on a pass from Sarah Robson.

Brown pulled Aubree Moore in the final minute to try and tie the game, but the Black Bear defense fought and Maine came up with a 2-1 win.

Black Bear goalie Mariah Fujimagari made 20 saves while Brown goalie Aubree Moore stopped 19.

Maine improves to a 1-12-4 on the season while Brown falls to 1-9-2.

The Black Bears continue their series with Brown Saturday, December 7th, the puck drops at 12pm.
