BOSTON COLLEGE TOPS WESTERN ONTARIO IN EXHIBITION, 2-0

Sophomore forward Haley Skarupa scored a goal for the Eagles

BOSTON, Mass - The No. 2 Boston College women's ice hockey team defeated Western University 2-0 in an exhibition game Saturday at Walter Brown Arena.

The Eagles took the lead just 17 seconds into the game when freshman Haley McLean received a pass from junior Emily Field on the edge of the circle in front of the goaltender and buried the puck into the top of the net to put BC up 1-0.

Sophomore Haley Skarupa tallied an empty-netter with 8 seconds remaining in the game to seal the 2-0 victory for the Eagles.

The shots were even in the first period with nine for each team, but BC took charge in the second and third frames, outshooting the Mustangs by a total of 31-8 in the final two periods.

Senior Corinne Boyles started between the pipes for BC, stopping all 9 shots she faced. Junior goaltender Megan Miller played the last two stanzas and saved all 8 shots on net.

Western University goaltender Kelly Campbell stopped 38 of the 39 shots she faced in 59:33.

The Eagles return to action on October 6 at Kelley Rink for their home opener against Maine at 5:00 p.m.
