PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team played Hockey East rival New Hampshire on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Schneider Arena and tied 2-2. With the tie, the Friars record moved to a 7-4-2 overall record, and a 5-1-1 record in conference play.

The first period was played evenly between the Friars and the Wildcats as neither team could get on the scoreboard. Providence goaltender Nina Riley (Lexington, Mass.) stopped all ten shots she faced in the period including a breakaway by Wildcat forward Kristina Lavoie to keep the score even. New Hampshire finished the period outshooting Providence, 10-8.

UNH capitalized on a power-play during the second period to break the tie and take the lead against the Friars. Megan Armstrong scored for the Wildcats at 10:04 after she fired a long shot that found its way past Riley to put New Hampshire up 1-0.

At 14:55 of the second period, junior Maggie Pendleton (Woodbury, Minn.) responded for Providence when her blast from the blueline beat New Hampshire netminder Marie-Eve Jean to even the score, 1-1. Sophomore Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) and senior Jessica Vella (Pickering, Ont.) recorded assists on Pendleton's first goal on the season.

Four minutes later, Vella gave the Friars the advantage with her seventh goal on the season after racing down the boards and firing a shot past Jean. Sophomore Haley Frade (Marion, Mass.) notched her an assist on the goal.

UNH scored after playing 3:08 of the third period when Arielle O'Neill evened the count with a shorthanded goal. O'Neill's shot beat Riley, who finished the match with 36 saves. Jean stopped 25 shots for the Wildcats.

After the sixty minutes of play had expired, the score was tied, 2-2. The two teams played a five minute overtime period but neither could find the back of the net, and the game ended in a tie.

Providence goes on the road next weekend to face off against two of their Hockey East rivals, Boston University and the University of Vermont. The Friars play BU on Friday, Nov. 16 at 5:00 at the Walter Brown Arena and take on UVM at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Gutterson Fieldhouse.
