CONNECTICUT SKATES TO 2-2 TIE AGAINST ST. LAWRENCE
Sophomore forward Emily Snodgrass scores goal and assist for Huskies
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team picked up a 2-1 tie against in a non-conference match-up against St. Lawrence on Sunday afternoon. The tie puts the Huskies' record at 2-10-2, while the Saints stand at 7-6-1.
The two teams played to a scoreless period in the first, with SLU outshooting UConn, 11-4. The Huskies penalty kill was on point, stuffing the Saints on all three power play chances.
Connecticut broke into the scoring column early in the second as senior defenseman Casey Knajdek (Woodbury, Minn.) notched her first goal of the season. Knajdek scored at the 2:05 mark after the Huskies killed off their third penalty of the game. Sophomore forward Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) tallied her fourth assist of the season on the play.
UConn committed five more penalties in the second, but kept the Saints out of the net, despite allowing 12 shots, while down a man.
The Connecticut lead was gone just seven seconds into the third period when Kelly Sabatine marched in unmarked following the initial face-off to lift a shot over the shoulder of UConn freshman goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) for her eighth goal of the season.
The Huskies regained the lead on a power play goal by Snodgrass at the 7:09 mark. Connecticut had been on a five-on-three when Snodgrass entered the zone, but her shot occurred as SLU's Brooke Fernandez was released from the penalty box.
The Saints tied the game once again at the 11:04 mark. Kayla Raniwsky whipped the puck to Ellie Williams, whose shot went in front of the net where it was knocked into the net by Bailey Habscheid.
For the game, St. Lawrence outshot Connecticut, 43-28. UConn committed nine penalties to SLU's six.
Chuli provided 41 saves for the Huskies, while Carmen MacDonald had 26 for the Saints.
Connecticut returns to action next weekend at the Nutmeg Classic, hosted by Yale, on Friday, November 23 against the host Bulls at 7:00 pm.
