MAINE SKATES TO 1-1 TIE AT CONNECTICUT

Sophomore forward Katy Massey scored the game-tying goal for the Black Bears

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team drew even with visiting Maine, 1-1, at the Freitas Ice Forum in Hockey East action on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) got the scoring started with her third goal of the season coming at the 7:04 mark of the first period. Snodgrass received a pass up the right wing and skated into the zone where she ripped a shot top shelf off assists from classmates Caitlin Hewes (Stillwater, Minn.) and Sarah MacDonnell (Quispamsis, Que.).

The Huskies (3-19-3, 1-10-1) were outshot by the Black Bears (4-17-3, 1-10-2) 17-7 in the second period. Sophomore Katy Massey tallied the game-tying score less than three minutes into the frame. Junior Kayla Kaluzny put a shot on goal that was saved, but remained still in the crease until Massey came along to knock it home.

Freshman goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) was spectacular between the pipes for UConn as she stopped a career-high 44 shots, including nine on the penalty kill. Connecticut held Maine to 0-for-4 on the power play.

Senior Brittany Ott made 16 saves for the Black Bears.

Maine played the game in spare blue UConn men's jerseys after leaving the team's sweaters home in Orono.

The Huskies return to action tomorrow afternoon at Boston College at 3:00 pm.
