PROVIDENCE COLLEGE SKATES TO 2-2 TIE WITH BROWN

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team tied Brown University, 2-2, in its 18th annual Mayor's Cup. The tie brings the Friars overall record to 7-5-4 and marks the third time the two teams have tied while competing for the cup.

Providence held the lead at the end of the first period, 1-0. Junior Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) scored for the Friars off a drop pass from sophomore Allison Micheletti (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.). Buie put the puck upstairs under the crossbar past Brown goaltender Aubree Moore to earn her fifth goal of the season.

The Friars extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) notched her fifth goal of the season at 10:50 of the second period. Hanrahan was unassisted when she ripped the puck high glove side on Moore, who finished the period with 18 saves.

Brown answered with a power-play at 7:10 of the second period. Lauren Jolin earned her second goal of the season on the play. Jolin tipped the puck five hole on freshman Sarah Bryant (Bethlehem, Pa.), who finished the period with six saves. Jolin was assisted by Alena Polenska and Kelly Micholson on the play. The second period ended with the score 2-1 in Providence's favor.

With 43 seconds remaining in the game and the net empty Brown tied up the game, 2-2, sending it into overtime. Polenska put the puck low off the post past Bryant to earn her second point of the game.

Bryant came up big with under minute to play in overtime to help the Friars come away with the tie. Bryant finished the game with 25 saves for the Friars. Providence outshot Brown, 39-27.

The Friars continue with out of conference play on Sunday, Nov. 25, when they host Union College at 2:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live and can be accessed by fans through www.friars.com.
