CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 6 Boston College women's ice hockey team (2-3-0, 1-3-0 Hockey East) salvaged a split of the two game set against Minnesota-Duluth (3-4-1, 2-3-1 WCHA) with a hard fought 3-2 victory at Kelley Rink on Friday night.
Alex Carpenter, Emily Field, and Haley Skarupa all recorded two point games for the Eagles. Senior Corinne Boyles made 21 saves to improve to 2-1-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs tried to duplicate their effort from last night and they succeeded with a goal by Jenna McParland at 11:06 with Haley Skarupa in the box for cross checking. BC's golden chance of the period came on a rebound that Dana Trivigno put off the post to keep the Bulldogs lead at 1-0. Kayla Black, playing back-to-back nights in goal for Minnesota-Duluth, made eight saves in the first period. The Eagles held an 8-4 shots advantage after 20 minutes.
The physicality increased in the second period as the teams combined for eight penalties including Blake Bolden and Bulldogs goaltender Kayla Black being sent off for matching minors. The Eagles tied the game at the 7:41 mark as freshman Haley Skarupa (3rd) hammered home a loose puck in the crease. Ashley Motherwell (3rd) gave BC a 2-1 lead at 11:46 on a cross crease pass from Emily Field. The goal was Motherwell's third power play goal of the season. BC outshot the Bulldogs 18-10 through 40 minutes of play.
With the Eagles on the power play to begin the third period, Alex Carpenter (2nd) took a feed from Haley Skarupa and beat Kayla Black under the crossbar to give BC a 3-1 lead. Shara Jasper cut the deficit to 3-2 for the Bulldogs as they mounted a furious attack at the BC goal. Corinne Boyles turned away 12 Bulldog shots in the final period to secure a 3-2 Eagles victory.
Notes: Freshman defenseman Lexi Bender lead the team with six shots on goal ... Corinne Boyles stopped 21 shots for the Eagles while Kayla Black stopped 23 for the Bulldogs.... the teams combined for 15 penalties ... BC is now 2-5-0 all-time against Minnesota Duluth ... BC will travel to Walter Brown Arena to face off against No. 3 Boston University next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
