Freshman forward Lexi Bender scored the game-tying goal for the Eagles

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The No. 8 Boston College women's ice hockey team (3-3-1, 2-2-1 Hockey East) needed a power play goal in the third from freshman Lexi Bender to draw even en route to a 5-5 tie against No. 3 Boston University (7-2-1, 3-1-1 Hockey East) on Saturday afternoon.

Blake Bolden notched her first two goals of the season and led the team with 13 shots on goal while Alex Carpenter added a goal and two assists for the Eagles. Megan Miller (16 saves) started her second consecutive game for BC while Kerrin Sperry (38 saves) started her ninth game of the season for the Terriers.

BC capitalized off their momentum from Wednesday night as Kate Leary put back a rebound off a Meagan Mangene shot at 1:40 of the first period. The Terriers answered back with two straight goals from Louise Warren, her first two goals of the season to give BU a 2-1 lead. Defenseman Blake Bolden tied the game for the Eagles with 51 seconds left as she put back her own rebound on her sixth shot of the period. The Eagles went 1-for-3 on the power play in the first 20 minutes with a 16-5 edge in shots on goal.

The Eagles took a 3-2 lead at 6:03 of the second period as Blake Bolden blasted a faceoff win from Alex Carpenter past Kerrin Sperry for her second goal of the game. The Eagles continued their assault the Terriers goal but Sperry was up to the task as she robbed Ashley Motherwell on a cross crease pass to keep the game at 3-2. BU knotted the game up on the power play as Isabel Menard tipped a Shannon Doyle shot past Megan Miller at 16:12. Shots on goal for the second period: BC 17, BU 8.

Carpenter put BC in front 4-3 at 5:06 on a wrist shot from the top of the circles but BU answered right back. Shannon Stoneburgh tied the game once again at 6:49 and then Louis Warren notched her first career hat trick 32 seconds later to give the Terriers their first lead of the game. The Eagles went on the power play halfway through the third and capitalized when freshman Lexi Bender scored her first collegiate goal on a shot from the slot that beat Sperry under the crossbar at 11:57. The teams clamped down defensively in the final 10 minutes and through overtime as the game ended in a 5-5 tie.

Notes: Blake Bolden has seven points and Alex Carpenter has eight points in their last two games... Megan Miller stopped 16 shots for the Eagles while Kerrin Sperry stopped 38 for the Terriers ...
