PROVIDENCE COLLEGE TOPPED BY MERCYHURST, 3-0

Senior netminder Genevieve Lacasse made 45 saves for the Friars

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision Sunday, bowing to #9 Mercyhurst at Schneider Arena.

For the Friars, senior goaltender Genevieve Lacasse halted a season-best 45 shots in the effort. Providence was outshot, 48-30.

Mercyhurst took an early, 1-0 lead 4:43 into the opening period. While on the power play, Laker forward Jess Jones blasted a slapshot from the near point that was blocked. The ricochet found the stick of senior Bailey Bram who quickly converted from the right of the slot. It was Bram's fourth goal of the weekend as she tallied a hat trick in the Laker's win over Providence on Saturday.

The Lakers extended the cushion at the 5:22 mark of the second, when defenseman Jill Szandzik stepped into a loose puck at the high slot and delivered a slapshot to the back of the net. 2-0 Lakers after two.

Mercyhurst's Kelley Steadman added an insurance goal in the form of an empty-netter at 17:39 of the third.
