Senior forward Jenn Wakefield scored two goals for the Terriers

BOSTON - Paced by two goals from senior captain Jenn Wakefield and three assists from junior Isabel Menard, the No. 2/3 women's hockey team began the 2011-12 season with a 4-1 win over the No. 7 North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

BU scored four unanswered goals to secure the victory. Sophomore Kerrin Sperry stopped 32 shots to earn the victory.Senior Jenelle Kohanchuk had a multiple-point evening, as she notched a goal and added an assist.

North Dakota began the scoring at the 3:09 mark of the first period. Kayla Berg chipped the puck up the left wing, where Alyssa Wiebe retrieved the puck. She passed it to Josefine Jakobse, who dished it right back to Wiebe, who beat Sperry for the goal.

The Terriers responded in the second period on the power play. Menard made a great play behind the net to find Kohanchuk in front for the finish. Wakefield also assisted on the tally that came at the 5:56 mark of the stanza.

Louise Warren scored the game-winner at the 12:14 mark of the second period, as she was able to capitalize in front of Sioux goaltender Stephanie Ney (27 saves). Menard and Carly Warren each assisted on the goal.

Wakefield struck on the power play with 4:58 remaining in the second stanza, as she took a pass across the offensive zone from Menard and lit the lamp. Kohanchuk also earned an assist on Wakefield's first of the game.

The senior captain scored her second goal just 1:05 into the third period. Junior Jill Cardella made a pass that sent Wakefield in all alone on Ney. Wakefield put the puck top-shelf to make it a 4-1 game.

Sperry was fantastic late in the game, stopping 15 shots in the second period and 13 shots in the third frame. BU also held North Dakota 0-for-6 on the power play.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
