BOSTON - Junior forward Ashley Motherwell scored twice and freshman forwards Kate Leary and Alex Carpenter both provided two assists to help the sixth-ranked Boston College women's ice hockey team defeat Harvard, 4-2, in the consolation game of the 34th Annual Beanpot Tournament on Tuesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

BC went 2-for-4 on power plays and picked up its seventh win over a ranked team as junior goalkeeper Corinne Boyles provided 33 saves to help the Eagles (19-8-3) snap a three-game skid. Laura Bellamy stopped 25 shots for the Crimson (16-8-1).

Nearly a minute into the contest, Carpenter hit freshman Emily Field from the left circle as her teammate blazed through the slot. The one-timer was denied by Bellamy, but the Eagles did not use much more clock before getting on the board.

The horn was sounded at 1:51, when senior captain Danielle Welch connected with Leary and sophomore defender Meagan Mangene to give the Eagles the lead, 1-0.

BC fought off several Harvard attacks over the following minutes, but the Crimson tied the game, 1-1, at 13:09. A pass from Hillary Crowe landed at Elizabeth Parker's stick and although Boyles managed to make a sweeping stick save alone the left post, Alisa Baumgartner punched in the rebound.

With just over two minutes to play in the first, Carpenter rocketed a shot to the upper left corner, but the puck was snagged by Bellamy to keep the game even headed towards the intermission.

The sides traded penalties with BC been subject to body checking and Harvard for having too many players on the ice.

The Eagles killed the penalty and capitalized with their second power play goal in as many games. Nearing the fourth minute of the second period, Carpenter pulled down a flying puck just inside the right circle. The rookie got off a back-handed chance that Bellamy pushed back up the slot, but Motherwell scorched the puck into the back of the Crimson net to reclaim the lead, 2-1, at 4:09.

At 14:30, junior defenseman Blake Bolden added another power play tally for the 3-1 lead. Carpenter sent a puck from the left corner up to Emily Pfalzer at the point. The freshman defender whipped a pass over to Bolden, who connected well enough to cue the lights for the 13th power play goal of her career, seventh most in school history. The score marked the first time since Nov. 25, 2011 that the Eagles registered two or more power play goals.

BC carried over a hooking penalty into the third period. Seconds after the advantage expired Motherwell netted her second goal of the day, the first multi-goal game of her career. Leary found the junior's stick at 2:24 to record her first game with two assists.

The Boston College lead was cut by one, 4-2, at 9:05. A goaltender inference call reduced the number of BC's skaters by one when Jillian Dempsey scored off looks from Lyndsey Fry and Marissa Gedman.

The Eagles spent most of the minutes remaining in regulation fending off penalties, but emerged with a 4-2 victory.

Boston College will resume Hockey East play with a home-and-home series against Connecticut this weekend. The Eagles travel to UConn on Saturday for a 2 p.m. skate, then host the Huskies on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kelley Rink.
