Syracuse, N.Y. - Freshman Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored the lone goal of the game for the Huskies, as the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team fell at Syracuse, 7-1 this afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

The lone UConn goal came at the 10 minute mark during the second period, when Maude Blain (Magog, Que.) and Monique Weber (Rogers, Minn.) found Gross on the UConn power play. The goal brought the Huskies within one, 2-1 after Syracuse was able to post a goal in the first period and one in the opening minutes of the second period.

The goal was Gross' second in the past two games and her team-high third of the season.

Syracuse answered with three goals within four minutes during the middle of the second period to take a 5-1 lead before posting two additional goals in the final period for the 7-1 victory.

Syracuse had five different players record goals during the game, including a hat trick from Isabel Menard.

UConn was outshot 38-19 on the game, including a 16-8 difference during the opening period.

Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) and Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) split time in net this afternoon, with Paniccia posting 21 saves and Garcia recording 10 in 26 minutes of action.

The Huskies return to action next weekend when they travel to the state of Minnesota to take on the reigning national champions in Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday (Oct. 23) and Sunday (Oct. 24) with both contests beginning at 4:07 p.m. EST.
