Sophomore forward Jill Cardella scored the game-tying goal for the Terriers

BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 5 Boston University women's ice hockey team (8-1-3, 2-0-3 HEA) garnered goals from senior Holly Lorms and sophomore Jill Cardella, but played to a 2-2 draw with Vermont (1-4-7, 0-4-4 HEA) on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. With the tie, BU set a program record for its longest unbeaten streak at 11 games (8-0-3).

The Catamounts and Terriers exchanged the game's four goals, with Vermont's Saleah Morrison striking first on a 5-on-3 power play at 9:11 of the second period. Lorms answered for BU at 16:36 of the middle frame before Vermont's Lindsey Cashman scored at 1:12 of the third period. Cardella netted her second marker of the season at 9:45 of the period to account for the 2-2 final.

BU, which tied Vermont for the second straight day, held a 32-31 shot advantage. The Terriers were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Catamounts went 1-for-4. Freshman Kerrin Sperry turned aside 29 shots, while Vermont's Roxanne Douville made 30 saves.

After a scoreless first period, Morrison gave Vermont a 1-0 lead while on a two-player advantage. With freshman Kaleigh Fratkin and graduate student Catherine Ward serving penalties, Morrison sent a shot from the blue line that found its way past Sperry.

Lorms answered for the Terriers with 3:24 remaining in the frame to even the game. Ward collected the puck near her defensive blue line and sent pass up the right-wing boards to Lorms. The Brookfield, Wis., native skated into the zone, fended off a Vermont defenseman as she was cutting toward the net and wristed a shot from below the right circle that beat Douville.

In the third period, Cashman gave Vermont a 2-1 lead just 1:12 into the period. Sperry turned aside Jul Sifers' initial attempt, but Erin Wente collected the rebound and slid a cross-crease pass to Cashman, who sent the puck into the net.

With 10:15 left in regulation, Cardella tied the game, 2-2, with her second goal of the season. Following a scramble in front of the net, Cardella, who was stationed to the left of Douville, knocked in the loose puck for the goal.

BU outshot Vermont, 6-2, in overtime but was held off the scoreboard as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Terriers will return to action on Nov. 20 when they host No. 6 Boston College at 3 p.m. The game marks the beginning of a home-and-home series between the teams as BU will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Nov. 21 for a 7 p.m. matchup. Vermont will return to action on Nov. 20 when it hosts Connecticut at 2 p.m.
