Senior forward Holly Lorms scored two goals for the Terriers

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Holly Lorms netted the game-winner with 55 seconds left on the clock, as the No. 3 Boston University women's ice hockey team edged No. 8/9 Providence, 4-3, at Walter Brown Arena on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Terriers extended their program-best win streak to eight games and improved to 16-2-3 (6-1-3 HEA).

Lorms registered a two-goal game, while junior Jenn Wakefield and sophomore Kathryn Miller also scored for the Terriers. Freshmen Marie-Philip Poulin and Louise Warren contributed two assists each and classmate Kerrin Sperry improved to 12-0-2 on the season with a 21-save performance.

BU was 0-for-4 on the power play, while Providence was 1-for-4. BU outshot the Friars by a 42-24 margin. Providence fell to 14-7-1 (5-4-1 HEA) with the loss. Senior Christina England started the game for the Friars and made 12 saves in the first period, while freshman Nina Riley turned aside 26 shots during the last two frames.

With the win, BU improved to 3-1-0 against ranked teams in 2010-11.

The Terriers took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Warren poked the puck toward Wakefield at the top of the crease, where she slid a backhand attempt under England to open the scoring at 15:01.

Providence answered just 1:10 later. While on a power play, junior defenseman Christie Jensen found senior Jean O'Neill in the slot, where she wristed a shot past Sperry.

Miller regained BU's one-goal lead with 2:28 remaining in the opening frame. Poulin passed to Miller near the blue line, where she slid the puck to senior Jillian Kirchner. The Frankfort, Ill., native drove hard to net and sent a cross-crease pass to Miller for the goal.

In the second frame, O'Neill evened the game, 2-2, with her second marker of the contest. From behind the net, Jensen passed to O'Neill in the slot, where she wristed the puck into the net at 12:46.

Lorms answered with 1:22 remaining in the middle stanza when she knocked in Poulin's rebound past Riley.

Junior Ashley Cottrell responded for the Friars just 49 seconds later when she knocked down a Terrier clearing attempt and wristed a shot past Sperry.

In the final frame, Lorms provided the heroics with 55 seconds remaining in the contest. Warren flipped the puck toward the net that Lorms grabbed, set in front of her and, while turning, quickly rifled into the back of the net to account for the 4-3 final.

The Terriers will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 15) when they travel to No. 6 Boston College. Opening faceoff is set at 2 p.m. Providence will play at New Hampshire on Friday (Jan. 14) at 7 p.m.
