Danielle Welch nets game-winner and Mary Restuccia posts goal and two assists for Eagles

Junior forward Danielle Welch picked up the overtime goal for the Eagles

One and a half minutes into overtime, Danielle Welch tipped in the game-winning goal to give the Eagles a 3-2 win over Connecticut on Friday, January 28 at Kelley Rink. A third period comeback with goals from Kelli Stack and Mary Restuccia tied the game.

BC is now 17-5-4, 11-3-2 in Hockey East while Connecticut falls to 12-16-1, 8-7-1 in the league.

An evenly-matched first period in which BC only managed seven shots and Connecticut five, the Huskies took the lead with an unassisted goal from Brittany Murphy directly in front of the goal at 17:37 at the end of the opening frame.

Connecticut notched its second tally at 2:11 of the second period. Despite dominating the remainder of the period, outshooting the Huskies 16-6, BC was unable to register a score.

Stack netted BC's first goal at 12:46 in the final frame, with assists from Restuccia and Jessica Martino, but it was Restuccia who tied the game with a goal at 18:24 off a pass from Taylor Wasylk to force an overtime period.

The Eagles only needed one and a half minutes of overtime before Welch deflected the puck between the pipes off tips from Restuccia and Stack to win the game.

The Eagles outshot the Huskies 44-17. Molly Schaus stopped 15 shots between the pipes for the Eagles.

Next up, the Eagles will travel to Providence to face the Friars at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6.
