Jenna Ouellette notched the game-winner for Maine

ORONO, Maine -- Jenna Ouellette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored a power play goal at 12:23 of the third period to break a 0-0 tie as the University of Maine women's ice hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-0 victory over Vermont on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine. The Black Bears improve to 5-9-5 on the season with the victory and move to 3-5-3-1 in Hockey East play. Vermont falls to 5-10-1 on the campaign, 1-7-1 in conference play.

The two teams played through two scoreless periods. The Black Bears held a 20-18 edge in shots on goal after two periods of play.

Ouellette tallied the game-winning goal at 12:23 of the third period on the power play. She tipped a Lexie Hoffmeyer (Grand Blanc, Mich.) shot from the blueline past Vermont goalie Kristen Olychuck. Taryn Peacock (Calgary, Alberta) got the puck to Hoffmeyer to pick up an assist on the goal as well. For Ouellette, it was her seventh goal of the season. She had a hand in all five Maine goals on the weekend.

Maine goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) was impressive, making 22 saves en route to her second career shutout. She moves to 4-4-3 on the season.

Olychuck made 25 saves in goal for the Catamounts. She falls to 5-10-1 on the season.

Maine outshot Vermont 26-22 in the game. The Black Bears were 1-for-4 on the power play, while holding Vermont scoreless in five opportunities.

Maine returns to action on Friday, Dec. 11 when they travel to Union for a game. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 pm. Vermont does not return to action until it travels to Dartmouth on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
