Providence, R.I. - The women's ice hockey team defeated the Colonials of Robert Morris University, 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Schneider Arena. Senior Cherie Hendrickson (Boxford, Mass.) lead the offense with a goal and three assists for a career high four points. Rachel Crissy (Naperville, Ill.), Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ont.), Amber Yung (Rockville, Va.) and Brittany Simpson (Barrie, Ont.) all registered two points for the Friars. With the win, Providence improves to 4-6-2 (2-2-1 HOCKEY EAST), while Robert Morris falls to 7-8-1 (0-2-0 CHA) on the season.

The Colonials came out and took the lead 3:49 into the first period as they were able to convert on the game's first power play opportunity. The Colonial goal was scored by Maria Stoa. But the Friars would go on to score seven straight goals, as they answered back with a power-play goal from Smith at 14:49. Junior Katy Beach (Cleveland, Ohio) assisted on the score. Hendrickson then gave PC the lead when she took a pass from Crissy and fired a shot high past RMU goalie Brianne McLaughlin from the top of the face-off circles. Just 55 seconds later, senior Danielle Tangredi added to the lead as she scored on a wraparound attempt. Simpson was credited with an assist on the play.

At 4:50 of the second, Yung made it 4-1 as she deposited a shot from the left point into the top right corner of the RMU net for her first collegiate goal, with assists going to Crissy and Hendrickson. Exactly 3:00 minutes later, senior Kelli Doolin (Dorchester, Mass.) got in on the scoring act, netting her first of the season. Doolin's goal was assisted by Yung and Hendrickson.

The Friars continued the scoring in the third period at the 12:01 mark when Simpson netted her first power-play goal, and third overall, of the season. Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.) and Hendrickson assisted on the goal. At 16:57, Smith closed out the scoring for PC with her second of the game. Hendrickson and senior Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich) earned assists on the goal.

In net, junior Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) finished with 14 saves to earn her third win of the season.

The Friars return to action next weekend when they return to HOCKEY EAST play as they host Maine for two games on December 1 and 2. The games will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena on the campus of Providence College.
