NEW HAMPSHIRE SHUTS OUT MAINE, 6-0

Micaela Long had a goal and three assists for UNH

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine Women's Ice Hockey team dropped a game Sunday afternoon to New Hampshire by a score of 6-0. Maine fell to 2-21-3 and 1-9-3 in Hockey East while New Hampshire improved to 23-3-1 and 13-0-1 in Hockey East.

In the first period, UNH managed a lot of shots on goal but nothing came of them. They also held Maine to only one shot on goal. The Wildcats outshot Maine 18-1 in the period.

In the second period, UNH broke out. Sam Faber scored first at 7:09 into the period. The power play goal was assisted by Jenn Hitchcock and Sadie Wright-Ward. Faber scored again at 8:36 into the period from Micaela Long. Wakefield got her first goal at 11:02 into the period assisted again by Long. Angela Taylor rounded out the scoring with 3:55 remaining with a goal from Kelly Paton and Nicole Goguen. UNH outshot Maine in the period 18-2.

In the third period, UNH scored two more times. Jenn Wakefield got her second goal of the game at 5:23 into the period. Long got her third assist of the game on the goal. And finally, Long got a goal of her own at 8:45 into the period assisted from Kacey Bellamy and Jenn Wakefield. The Wildcats outshot the Black Bears 21-5 in the period.

Maine goaltender Sarah Bishop totalled 51 saves in the game. New Hampshire goaltender Lucy Schoedel tallied 8 saves. Bishop went to 0-7-0 on the season while Schoedel went to 3-1-0. Maine was 0-for-3 on the power play while New Hampshire went 2-for-5.

Next weekend Maine travels to Northeastern for a two-game set on Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 7pm.
