The BU Terriers defeated the Northeastern Huskies 3-1 at Matthews Arena on Sunday. The Terriers got two goals in the first and one in the third to pick up their seventh win of the season and gain sole possession of fifth place in Hockey East.

BU notched two goals in the first period. The first came at 15:02 when sophomore Melissa Anderson tipped in a shot rifled from blue line on the left side by senior Julie Poulin, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Junior Sarah Russell was also credited with an assist. The Terriers doubled their lead when Lauren Cherewyk scored her third goal of the season with 6:38 left in the period. Erin Seman and Julie Poulin assisted on the play, giving BU a 2-0 lead at the end of one.

After giving up 24 shots in the first period, the Huskies settled down nicely in the second, outshooting the Terriers 9-7. They got on the board with 30 seconds remaining in the period after sophomore Annie Hogan lifted the puck to freshman Alyssa Wohlfeiler who beat BU goalie Allyse Wilcox with a low, hard shot and pulling the Huskies to within one at the end of the frame.

The Terriers tacked on their third and final goal from Caroline Bourdeau early in the third at 1:14. Though the Huskies outshot BU again 9-7, they couldn't seem to find net and fell by a final score of 3-1.

The Terriers had 38 shots on net, to Northeastern's 24. Freshman goaltender Leah Sulyma made 35 saves, giving her 30 saves in six straight games and eight overall. Wilcox was solid once again for BU, holding the Huskies to one goal while making 23 saves.

The loss drops the Huskies to 4-13-2 on the season, and 3-5-0 in Hockey East. They'll face Boston College at Conte Forum Thursday at 7 p.m.
