BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team earned a spot in the Beanpot Championship with a 3-1 win over Boston College Tuesday at Walter Brown Arena. The victory breaks a streak of 12-consecutive losses for the Terriers against the Eagles in the tournament. Junior co-captain Gina Kearns and senior Julie Poulin each scored for Boston University, while sophomore Jonnie Bloemers had her second game-winning goal against the Boston College this season.

It was a tight and hard fought game through two periods, as Kearns's first-period score was the only goal on the board entering the third period. However, a three-goal explosion in the third period - including two BU power-play goals - changed the complexion of the game drastically.

Kearns's goal came at 13:19 of the first period, as the junior received a crossing pass from freshman Jillian Kirchner and poked it into goal past the netminder.

After skating to a scoreless second period, BC evened the score with a goal from junior Meghan Fardelmann at 4:32 of the third period.

Bloemers scored the game-winner at 8:18 of the third on the power play, as Poulin charged the goal but dished a pass to Bloemers before the netminder pounced. The sophomore then wristed in a shot to give the Terriers the lead for good.

BU scored an insurance goal less than a minute later, as Poulin netted a score of her own from the point of assists from junior Amanda Shaw and Kearns at 9:02 of the third period.

With the win over the Eagles, who had won the previous two Beanpot tournaments, BU will appear in its second consecutive championship - facing No. 1 Harvard, who fell Northeastern 3-1 in the earlier game Tuesday afternoon. The championship game will be held at Walter Brown Arena at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The consolation game between Northeastern and Boston College will be held at 5:00 p.m. on the same day.
