VERMONT DEFEATED BY ST. CLOUD STATE, 7-0

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Junior forward Laura Fast scored once and handed out two assists to lead the St. Cloud Huskies to a 7-0 victory over the University of Vermont in women's hockey action at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday evening. Fast was one of seven different scorers for SCSU in the contest.

Junior Brittni Kuyper started the scoring at the 3:21 mark of the first period. She took a pass from Denelle Maguet and fired a shot from the left just inside the blue line that rang off the underside of the cross bar and into the net. The Huskies rattled off three more goals in the final four minutes of the period to take a 4-0 lead at the intermission.

Megan McCarthy tipped the puck past Vermont goaltender Shivaun Siegel (Livonai, N.Y.) at the 16:04 mark. Brita Schroeder and Fast earned assists on the goal. Just over a minute later Hailey Clarkson dumped the puck off to teammate Holly Roberts just off the crease and Roberts one-timed a shot into the net to give SCSU a 3-0 lead. Fast collected her second assist of the night sending a long pass up the ice to Caitlin Hogan who was able to go straight to the net and buried the goal to close out the period. Jenaca Fredheim also picked up an assist on the play.

Vermont held St. Cloud to three goals over the final two periods. The Huskies scored twice in the second. Amy Currier deflected the puck into the net at 3:12 of the second and Fast collected the puck from the right side of the net and banged it home at 16:47 to give St. Cloud a 6-0 lead after two periods of play.

Vermont had its best scoring opportunity in the third period. Junior Kate Lesniak (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a breakaway opportunity but Carmen Lizee was able to keep the Catamounts off the board. Michelle Moen closed out the scoring three minutes later with a shorthanded goal at 15:36. Moen collected her own rebound and was able to chip it into the net for her second goal of the year.

Siegl was credited with 31 saves in the Vermont net, while Lizee made 13 stops for St. Cloud State.

Vermont falls to 2-7-0 overall, while the Huskies improve to 4-6-1 on the season. The two teams will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday, face off is slated for 7:00pm at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
