WATROUS LEADS PROVIDENCE PAST VERMONT, 7-0
Senior Sonny Watrous has two goals and four assists for PC

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Sarah Feldman and Sonny Watrous each scored twice as Providence topped Vermont 7-0 in women's Hockey East action Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Despite the loss, the Catamounts (3-15-2, 1-7-1 Hockey East) picked up two points in conference play this weekend after topping first-place Connecticut Thursday.

"It was a very disappointing result after a very disappointing game," said Vermont head coach Tim Bothwell. "Providence played extremely well winning a vast majority of battles and races for loose pucks. We were victims early of a couple of bad breaks. We hit the crossbar and then down on the other end, PC had a fortuitous bounce. From both we did never recovered mentally.

"We still made some positive strides this weekend and we need to continue to build on them."

Feldman scored two times and Watrous added another as the Friars (9-8-3, 6-1-2 Hockey East) jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead. Watrous, who also had three assists, and Mari Pehkonen tallied second period goals to make it 5-0. Kristin Gigliotti and Katy Beach closed out the scoring in the final period.

Four of the Friars goals came on their eight power play opportunities while the Cats were unsuccessful in seven attempts. Vermont had two excellent scoring bids, one by Kari Furlani (Colchester, Vt.) that hit the crossbar, and another by Sash Hochlander (Calgary, Alberta) in the second period.

UVM goalie Jenilee Roy (Sandown, N.H.), who was solid in her last three starts including the Cats 3-2 upset of UConn Thursday, played just the first period stopping only five of eight shots. In relief, Ashley Walenty (Lake Placid, N.Y) made 27 saves in the final two periods including several good stops in the second.

Danielle Ciarletta (10 saves in 49 minutes) and Lauren Florio (one save in 11 minutes) combined for the shutout for Providence.

UVM remains home to host Boston College in a two-game series next weekend. The Cats and Eagles play Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
